FFLA/Vista Future Language Educator Scholarship

Do you know a Florida high school senior (2024-2025 graduate) who is thinking of making a career out of language instruction? Vista is excited to work with FFLA to offer a new scholarship opportunity focused on celebrating the next generation of outstanding language teachers. An award of $1,000 will be presented at the 2024 FFLA annual conference to one outstanding high school senior who demonstrates a strong commitment to pursuing a career in language teaching (any language, including English as a second language, at any level of instruction). This opportunity is only available to students of current FFLA members in good standing.

This opportunity is open to any high school senior (2024-2025 graduate) in the Florida. Applicants should review the rubric and complete all parts of the application. Applications are due by March 1, 2024.

Requirements:

  1. Current high school transcript
  2. List of school and community activities
  3. Three letters of recommendation, each not to exceed one page (1 from a language teacher, 1 from a peer, and 1 from a teacher or administrator at your high school)
  4. One page statement of your future plans to become a language teacher (750 words maximum)
  5. College or university you plan to attend (copy of acceptance, if available). State briefly how your plans fit within the offerings, programs and opportunities of this college or university.
  6. Upload a video (maximum 3 minutes) of the candidate’s response in their language of study/L2 to this question: What makes an A+ teacher? The video should focus entirely on the candidate while speaking.
  7. Must be willing to travel to Kissimmee, Florida in late September 2024 for the scholarship presentation (hotel room to be provided for student, and if a minor, an accompanying adult).
