Presented by Ruth Kriteman, Materials Development Coordinator and Lead Editor for DLeNM 

Description:  This practitioner-expert will share the basics of an instructional practice that supports English-learners’ linguistic, sociocultural, and academic success.  A few key strategies will be shared, along with suggestions for a culturally and linguistically responsive classroom.

About Michael Rodríguez:

Michael Rodríguez, DLeNM’s Director of Operations has been with the organization for the past five years.  After serving as a special education teacher at the secondary level, he spent fifteen years as a dual language site administrator where he focused on ensuring equity and access for all of his students.  Throughout his career, Mr. Rodriguez helped to establish and operate three different dual language programs in the Santa Fe and Albuquerque areas.  In his current position, he heads the Program Leadership Development branch of the organization, supporting schools and districts around the country to create quality, sustainable dual language programs.

About Ruth Kriteman:

Ruth Kriteman serves as Lead Editor for Dual Language Education of New Mexico. She oversees DLeNM’s publishing arm, Fuente Press, editing professional books as well as the quarterly newsletter, Soleado. A 42-year veteran teacher of K-12 public education from Maryland to California and Tennessee to Washington State, she has specialized in ESL and dual language education throughout her career, working with students from Latin America, South East Asia, Ukraine, and Romania. Ruth is a Tier IV Project GLAD® trainer, a certified Literacy Squared® trainer and an Adjunct Professor in the Language, Literacy and Socio-Cultural  Studies Department of the University of New Mexico where she has taught ESL Methods for the last 20 years.

Ruth is originally from Guadalajara, Mexico and had the great fortune of spending her high school years attending the American School of Madrid in Spain where her father served as headmaster. Later, she lived for a time in Neuchâtel, Switzerland where she perfected her French. After so much traveling, she is delighted to set down roots in the Land of Enchantment. She transferred her love of travel and living abroad to her older son who has lived and worked in Stockholm, Sweden and Kyiv, Ukraine, and her love of New Mexico to her younger son who is happy to stay put in Albuquerque.
