Understanding the new IB language acquisition curriculum and assessment

Join us—October 25th at 10am EST*

Changes to the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) language acquisition curriculum are coming—for first assessment in 2020! These changes will emphasize the use of authentic resources relevant to target-language cultures and course themes, in engaging and contextualized activities to develop communication skills and connect to conceptual understandings of language use. The new summative assessment model follows suit, particularly with an emphasis in assessing listening comprehension discretely. This webinar will address several topics relating to instructional design for these changes, including course and unit planning and the development of formative assessments. All levels of IBDP language acquisition (ab initio, B-SL, B-HL) will be addressed in the webinar.

Webinar Objectives:

  • Learn about the key changes to the IBDP language acquisition curriculum and assessment models, and the rationale for those changes
  • Understand implications for instructional design, including end-of-course goals for students and approaches to course and unit planning
  • Prepare an action plan for identifying and working with authentic resources to develop formative assessments

*Webinar is broadcast in Eastern Standard Time, but if that doesn't work for you, register for the webinar to receive the on-demand recording!
