This summer, Vista Higher Learning is bringing AP^® Spanish and French educators together for an intensive, all‑inclusive transition seminar focused on the latest AP^® course and exam changes. Join national AP^® leaders and Parthena Draggett, author of Temas.

Session Descriptions

AP^® Transition Workshop: Understanding and Applying the Latest Course and Exam Changes

This session supports teachers in understanding the upcoming AP^® course and exam changes and how those updates connect to their current instructional practices. Educators will explore shifts in course framework, such as skills and themes, student expectations, and key exam components—including the inquiry-based research project and other revised task types. The session includes guidance on effectively leveraging existing classroom resources during the transition, along with an overview of updated materials that will be available. Participants will also take time to map out instructional plans for the upcoming school year, incorporating revised themes, timelines for research, and adjustments aligned to the updated AP exam.

AP^® Task Readiness: Modeling, Scaffolding, and Planning for Success

This hands‑on workshop translates the demands of the future AP^® exam tasks, into day‑to‑day instruction. Participants will unpack task expectations from students and how those shifts and expectations could shape lessons, modeling, guided practice, and feedback. Throughout the session, teachers will examine how to continue to balance the modes of communication, skills, and intentionally weaving culture throughout instruction, ensuring alignment with both current practice and future course and exam updates. This session balances practical strategies, such as prompts, routines, and exemplars, with best practices and calibration work, so teachers leave ready to teach—and students are ready to perform—on the specific tasks they’ll encounter on exam day.

AP^® Planning and Pacing: Aligning Year-long Instruction with Course Revisions and Your Instructional Materials 

This session supports AP^® language teachers in building a clear, year-long instructional plan aligned to the revised AP^® course framework, exam structure, and scoring guidelines. Participants will examine the pacing implications of key skills and task types (including the course project and performance tasks), identify what to keep, adjust, or streamline in existing units, and map a realistic timeline that balances language growth, cultural learning, and sustained task practice. Using current instructional resources—such as Temas or Thèmes—teachers will leave with a practical pacing guide, benchmark checkpoints, and an instructional sequence that intentionally prepares students for exam expectations.

AP^® Course Project in Action: A Practical Approach for Implementing, Scaffolding, and Guiding Student Inquiry

This workshop gives teachers a practical roadmap for launching and managing the AP^® Course Project in ways that directly support exam expectations. Participants will unpack each phase of the project and plan routines that build student readiness from day one—scaffolding inquiry, research habits, decision-making, and language production. Educators will also explore strategies to elevate student choice, integrate cultural perspectives, and chunk milestones, so the work stays manageable, meaningful, and aligned to AP^® expectations.
